About the Author

Peter Watson

Peter Watson is a preservationist and architectural historian who focuses on nineteenth century history and culture.  He has delivered a number of public lectures in recent years on A.J. Davis and the Picturesque era, Shaker architecture and technology, and the Federal style architecture of Columbia County.  Peter has led house tours for public and professional audiences, curated exhibits, and written blogs.  He is also active in hands-on preservation and conservation work and has managed a variety of large scale restoration, archeology, and paint analysis projects at National Historic Landmark sites around the Hudson Valley.  Peter currently serves as Board Member & Chair, Bronson House Committee of Historic Hudson, Museum Trustee & Chair, Historic Site Committee at the Shaker Museum Mount Lebanon, and a Rural Guide for Behold! New Lebanon.   Before entering the preservation field, Peter spent twenty years working as management consultant to Fortune 500 firms.  He holds a B.A. in History from Wesleyan University and an M.S. in Historic Preservation from Columbia University GSAPP.
